| Description: Ethics education in science and engineering encompasses many issues and many constituencies, including: pre-college; undergraduate; graduate and postdoctoral students; junior and tenured faculty; technicians and administrators; and practicing scientists and engineers outside academe. Ethics education has implications for the institutions in which all of these individuals and groups study and work, as well as for other organizations and associations. Ethics issues arise in the practice of science and engineering as well as in the complex relationships among science, engineering, technology and society. To address this variety of issues and constituencies, educational practice needs to draw from relevant research, including work in practical and professional ethics and theory of action, pedagogical theory, and appropriate theory and knowledge from social and behavioral sciences. | |
